“How much does a crown cost?” It may seem like a simple question to ask your dentist, but the answer is more complex that you might think. Lots of factors go into the price of a crown that can make the answer to that question vary from person to person.
The various types of crowns include metal (gold or alloys), ceramic and zirconia. The last two are tooth-colored, which make them popular choices for patients who are concerned about aesthetics. Metal options are more obvious but can be more affordable than tooth-colored options.
Most plans cover a certain percentage of the cost of a crown and leave you to pay the rest. For example, some plans will cover 60% of the cost while the patient pays 40%. Whether you have the type of insurance plan that covers a portion of the cost outright, or the kind that you need to submit a bill for, ultimately some of the cost of your crown may be paid for by your insurance company.
The cheapest type of crown is one you never need to begin with. We don’t want to lecture, but you should know that in a healthy, well-protected mouth, a crown is an unusual intervention. Aside from accidents that physically break a tooth, most crowns are the result of tooth decay that has gotten so bad the tooth can’t survive it. The cheapest option is to come see us for your checkups regularly, brush and floss, and to get cavities filled when we find them!
While we’d love to assume that the first thing patients have in mind when making decisions about their dental care is their dental health, we do realize that many patients also think of their budget. In an ideal world, every patient would be able to get the care they need without having to worry about the cost, but in place of that imaginary scenario, we strive to work with every patient can get the care they need affordably. Always feel free to contact us about your options for financially planning your treatment.

A lot of patients come to us for orthodontic treatments. Of course orthodontics can be broken down into many different categories. Orthodontics for braces, whether it be Invisalign, also knows as a clear retainer system, to straighten the teeth. Also, traditional methods, such as metal braces or even our amazing modern ceramic braces that we have.
A lot of people don’t know which option to choose. What we’ve been able to do is bring patients in for evaluations to see exactly what’s going on, what you’re wanting to achieve with your smile. Is it the way that it looks? Or is it the way that it functions? We want to make sure that your whole mouth is extremely healthy, and anything that we can do to prevent future problems also is taken care of and addressed.
So we’ve been able to do amazing things with orthodontics. We have fast orthodontics. We have orthodontics that are comprehensive. We have case-specific orthodontic needs, also, to make sure that we can set up for further cosmetics such as veneers, such as crowns, to make sure that your smile is nothing but the best.
We’ve been able to set up these plans for young children, as young as the age of four years old, for patients all the way up through 86 years old and plus. We’ve been able to take care of every single age range because we believe that everyone deserves a beautiful smile, whether that’s because you want it to look good, or you want it to function well, because these are very important.
All of these plans are set up to make sure that you are happy with your smile, to make sure that it is done in the speed that you’re wanting it to be done, to make sure that you’re provided with the health benefits of functionality as well.
Orthodontics is a wonderful thing for every single person, not just for looks, but also, prevention to make sure that you’re healthy. No one wants to break a tooth and be in pain, and if straightening your teeth is gonna reduce that, I believe that we need to straighten those teeth in the manner and the goal that you’re trying to achieve.
We have pretty much every option available to every single patient who walks through that door, and we’re able to achieve their dreams and goals of a beautiful, healthy smile.
We have a lot of patients that come to us and they say things like, “I have difficulty chewing, Justin. I’m not able to eat the things that we want.“ One thing that I do, and a lot of people, they find it funny, my patients, my team members, is whenever a patient comes to me and says that they are not able to chew, they have difficulty chewing, I always ask them this: “What is the food that you want to make sure that you’re able to chew, that you don’t have any problems with?“ We get a lot of different things: corn, steak, apples. That becomes a goal. Our goal is to achieve eating of an apple, eating steak without worries, without concern. We then, of course, set up a plan for them, based off of the goal to make sure that we are able to eat steak, or we are able to eat apples, no matter what the food is. It could be anything, stickies, chewies, all the fun things that we have out there that we love to eat, because every single person I know … I know I have my favorites, but every person has their own certain favorites. That’s our goal.
We sit down with them. We, of course, do a full assessment, full evaluation to see exactly why is it that we’re unable to chew? Is it your dentures that are just flopping around that need to be locked down to make sure that they’re stabilized? Is it the fact that your teeth just do not come together. They need to be straightened in such a manner to make it that whenever you close your teeth together, that they’re functioning appropriately. No matter what that plan is, if you have teeth, if you don’t have teeth, that goal is to be able to chew, to be able to function in the way that you want to function. That is what we are going to achieve.
The most rewarding aspect of being a dentist is a great question. The biggest thing that I like is no matter what I do, any procedure, is a hug and a smile. That’s what I’m looking for, or even a simple thank you. Whenever we do things to patients, I always look and I’m like, “There’s no way this guy’s gonna thank me.“ I feel like I’ve been so mean to him, in anything that we’ve done, the procedures that we perform, sometimes I’m like, “This guy’s not gonna like me for a few days but I know whenever he gets his smile, he’s gonna love me.“ But whenever you see someone and they look you in the eyes, and they say, “Thank you,“ and whenever they smile at you and they say thank you, is just even more.
And then whenever you do get that hug ’cause you know, you’ve changed someone’s like and you can tell. People will come in and they’ll just say, “Thanks,“ you know, no big deal. But whenever you really see a person looking in the eyes and you can feel that they’re from their heart, that they’re showing you, expressing that happiness, that gratification, that is the most amazing thing any individual can feel because there’s so many different areas and fields and things that we can do for people to make them feel that way. But that is the most gratifying thing that I’ve found in my life is really that itself, is being able to create that smile and that relationship because whenever you change someone’s life you can feel it. And I don’t even think there’s words to explain the feeling that you get within yourself. It’s just that warm, happy sensation that you have done well for someone else and that’s why I do what I do.
Many people have issues with what we call TMJ or temporomandibular joint. So many people don’t understand exactly what is going on. Many patients who come to us have these headaches, have ear aches, have different joint problems, they’re locked close, thyre locked open, they’re not able to chew, they’re not able to function. TMJ is a very, very complex subject, a very complex topic, so I always recommend to the patients we need to make sure we do a thorough evaluation of the joint itself, we need to find out exactly what’s going on with you, what is the cause of your headaches, what is the cause of your ear problems.
After a thorough evaluation we’re able to see if your joints are actually the cause of your problems. So many patients have no idea that the joint, the mouth itself can make you have headaches, can make you have joint problems, make you have ear problems, make you have neck aches, different things. The jaw it self is connected to the entire body, and whenever we’re in the proper alignment from head to toe, things function much better.
Whenever one thing is out of whack, it can throw the entire system off. Whenever it comes to the joints, whenever it comes to the TMJ, we have to evaluate exactly what’s going on in your specific circumstance so we’re able to create a therapy that you’re able to go through and slowly become healed over time, to reduce your headaches, to reduce the drugs that you’re taking to get rid of the pain.
We want to get rid of medications, medications are wonderful things to help reduce pain, but it is not something that is going to help find out what the reason of your pain really is. That’s what we do here, is we find out what is the root cause of your TMJ problem, of your headaches, or of your sinus issues. Why are we getting those and what can we do for you to make sure we can reduce that, to make sure you’re able to function, you’re able to eat what you want, that you’re not concerned about the clicking, the popping, the locking of the joint itself.
So many people go to so many different dentists and ask them these issues, and they’re kind of turned away or they’re pushed to the side, and they’re not able to find their answer. With the specialty training that I have actually received over time, we’re able to tell you exactly what’s going on after our evaluations, and we’re able to set up with a therapy to help reduce these problems. I have patients who come to me who take tons of medication for pain, ton of medications to try to see what is really going on with them.
One patient in particular that I’m thinking about, taking 21 medications when she first saw me, and now she’s down to one. The reason why she’s on one, because her very own medical doctor has no idea what we have done to make it that her pain is gone. He’s concerned because he thinks the medication is really the only thing that will help her, but we’ve been able to even reduce that medication, that one, and we’ve been able to help even other medical doctors understand the joint itself and the severity sometimes how bad this can make different issues such as headaches, and why it can be the cause of them.
We’ve been able to take care of patients who have a few headaches or who have headaches constantly that is ruining their way of life, and we’ve been able to focus on a plan that has been able to make them achieve the goal that they’re wanting of no longer having headaches, of no longer having these issues. We’ve been able to address these needs and we’ve been able to take care of those patients. Whenever you’re able to get rid of these hindrances that are keeping you from your everyday activity, you become a better person. Guess what, we’re going to make you smile.
Dental implants. Many people think that this is something that’s new, that has just kind of come around. But actually, dental implants have been used for so, so long, for actually over a century we’ve been using them. We’ve found a lot of different things in the past that we’ve been using, and we have just really now, this generation have been using them more than ever. We have found that the success of dental implants has made things very, very possible for us, without grinding down on our teeth, without cutting other teeth, and removing other teeth. We’ve found that dental implants have done a wonderful thing for many different patients.
A lot of patients come to us in different situations. Whether they have a single missing tooth, they have a broken tooth, many people come to us concerned. “What are we going to do? What is the plan? How can you fix this?“ And of course, one is dental implants. We make an evaluation. We actually use 3D technology, so that we’re able to assess the bone itself. Of course, bone is a very, very important thing. Bone and gums, making sure it looks natural, it functions like a natural tooth.
We make that full evaluation, no matter what the circumstance is for this missing tooth. We make sure that we set a plan that we’re able to place a dental implant. Whether it’s under IV sedation, or just numbing medicines, and we set that plan up, and then we achieve that goal. We are able to do so many different things now with technology.
We’re able to pull teeth, place implants, we’re able to place teeth same day. And so many patients are so grateful, the fact that they don’t have to go without a missing tooth, because just like myself. If I were to break a tooth, or one of my front teeth go missing, all of the sudden because of an accident, because of some reason beyond my control, I know that I would want something immediately.
So every single person comes in, and one of the biggest concerns is, “Justin, am I going to have to go without my front tooth? Justin, am I going to have to go without a tooth, because that’s embarrassing?“ That’s a big concern, and so what we’ve been able to create here is different options to each patient, depending upon which one they’re looking for. Patients who have the greatest aesthetic, cosmetic concerns, or patients who just want to make sure that there’s something there.
We have so many different options to make sure that while an implant is healing, while we’re waiting for complete healing to take place, that we have something as a tooth replacement, so that you’re not having to walk around with a missing gap in your mouth for any extended period of time. So we’ve been able to achieve that, and dental implants have been one that our technology is growing, the capabilities of what we’re able to do for patients is growing, and implants has been one of those.
We’ve been able to place dental implants and use them just like natural teeth, make them look just like natural teeth, and the thing that we do best here is also making sure that they look amazing. Whenever it comes to the front of the mouth, you don’t want anyone to notice that you have had anything done, so you want to make sure it looks good. And that’s one thing that we pride ourselves on, is creating a customized plan to make sure that it looks natural, it functions natural, and that’s the goal that we want to achieve. Not just for today, not just for tomorrow, but for many years to come.

We have so many different areas in our life that affect our health. One that we’re able to treat here at Galleria of Smiles is actually our sleep. So we have a lot of patients that come to us with issues whenever they’re sleeping.
Sometimes it’s their spouse. Sometimes it’s their bed partner who says, “Hey, honey, you’re snoring. Go get it fixed.“ The patient comes in, they’re snoring. They don’t know what’s going on.
Here at Galleria of Smiles, we’re actually able to diagnose and see what exactly is going on with your sleep. We’re able to setup a plan whether you’re snoring or whether you’re holding your breath at night, which can dramatically affect not just your sleep, not just being tired during the day, but overall it can affect your health. It can cause so much damage to your body if you are holding your breath at night whenever you are sleeping.
Of course snoring is a symptom of sleep apnea, and it’s one that we take very, very seriously here. Pretty much every one of my family members has been diagnosed with some form of sleep apnea or snoring. I even have the personal experience, even with myself having some minor sleep apnea, have put myself through the treatments that we have available here.
We use a small device, that’s actually worn over the teeth. We also have patients who do have denture appliances that we can use as well. But we’ve been able to customize a plan that we’re able to look and see exactly what’s going on and then take it step by step through our therapy that we customize for every single individual to make it that we’re able to get you from A to Z.
Making sure whatever that your concern is, whether it just be your snoring, we’re able to take care of that and we are actually able to look and see if we are being successful. I’ve always been a doctor who I like to see the data. I like to make sure that our results are working and are achievable. I plan exactly what we need to do in order to make sure that you’re sleeping well at night.
To make sure that you’re not holding your breath at night. To make sure that you’re not falling asleep whenever you’re driving, that can affect the safety of not just yourself, but the other people around you. That is so, so important.
So A to Z, we don’t just make an appliance. We don’t just make an appliance and send you home and say, “Good luck.“ That’s not what we do. I want to make sure as a sleep dentist that every single person, every single procedure that we do here is successful, and that we are able to achieve it together.
With whatever is going on with your sleep, we’re ale to get you to the right avenues that you need to make sure that you’re staying healthy. Because it’s not just about your teeth here at Galleria of Smiles. It’s about your whole health. Your whole wellbeing is very important to us.
IV sedation is something that has changed the world of dentistry. It is definitely something that we have been able to implement here at Galleria of Smiles to make sure that we’re able to take care of the patients who are petrified, who are scared, who are concerned about receiving dental treatments, no matter what the treatment. If you’re concerned about getting a cleaning done, I have a solution for you: IV sedation or even oral sedation. The ways and techniques that we’ve been able to use have been able to reduce the fear of patients so that they’re able to come in and they’re able to get cleanings, they’re able to get their appropriate exams, they’re able to receive the treatments that they need.
Like I said, big or small, IV sedation has been something that’s changed our world. It’s been able to create an experience where an individual extremely concerned, or even concerned a little bit, we’ve been able to remove that completely with sedation options. We’ve been able to relax patients and make it that they were once unable to ever see a dentist, whether they’ve had bad experiences in the past or they’ve just always been scared of the dentist, completely gone. Completely gone.
We have so many individuals, too, who are scared to walk through my doors, so call me. I have patients who I do phone call interviews over the phone. We set up the plan over the phone so you don’t even have to step foot in our office so we can set up a customized plan based off of your concerns, based off of your past experiences to make sure that we can remove those fears, to make sure that we can take care of you, because I want to take care of every single individual. Whether your fear is great or your fear is little, I can remove that. We are able to achieve the goal of health together in a way that you need to be taken care of, every single individual.
We don’t just base this off of old experiences. We base it off of you, what your fear is and what your concern is, because being healthy is very important to many, many people, myself included. We want to make sure that if you want to be healthy, or you want to receive these complex procedures, you’re wanting to receive dental implants, you’re wanting to receive even orthodontics, we have been able to put patients with an IV sedation technique into a state of comfort to make sure they’re extremely relaxed or even pushing them into deeper sedation to make sure that they are completely exactly what’s going on and we’ve been able to take care of every single need.
So many people are so surprised the things that we’re able to achieve. We’re able to put people under IV sedation. We’re able to pull wisdom teeth. We’re able to place braces all in one visit. I mean, it is just amazing. Patients go to sleep, and then whenever they wake back up they don’t remember what happened, but they have everything done. It’s amazing, it’s beautiful, and it’s made dentistry that much easier.
We work wonderfully whenever patients are not concerned, and my biggest thing whenever it comes to me being a dentist is making sure that the experience that every individual receives here is nothing but the best. This is top-of-the-line things that we’re able to provide patients and the amazing thing that I can say is that your fear no longer has to be the thing that’s holding you back from receiving treatment. I love people and whenever people are not scared, whenever people are happy, it’s beautiful. It’s amazing what we’re able to do here.
I see a lot of emergencies every single day. A lot of patients come to me and they’re in pain. “Justin, I haven’t been able to sleep at night. I’ve been kind of putting this off. I’ve been concerned about the pain is there but also the pain of coming to the dentist and the fear of coming to the dentist,“ we get it a ton. We get it so much. The wonderful thing about my training and all the experience that I’ve had with dealing with emergencies whether they’re really big or they’re really small. Small toothaches. Large infections. Or even the fear that hovers above getting anything done.
So many people walk through those doors. Once they’re able to make that phone call, once they move forward, whenever they get in here, the experience that they have is nothing but spectacular because I have been trained specially to make sure I can take care of pain. Make sure that I can get people out of pain. And so whenever they come in we address it quickly. Emergencies are definitely one that I do not wait on. I want to make sure that we take care of and address any pain, any issues that patients are having and we address it quickly.
So whenever people come to us and they are in pain, they have tooth that’s just been abscessing, a tooth that’s been infected, a tooth that’s been broken, we address it fast. We try our best to always make sure we can do same day treatment especially whenever pain is involved. It’s something I definitely know if I was in pain I would want something done as quickly as possible so I would so whatever it takes to get myself out of pain.
I treat my patients just that way, the exact same way I would treat myself. The exact same way I would treat my family because they’re family when they walk in and when my family’s in pain, I want to get them out of pain as quickly as possible.
When I initially came here, the two front teeth, when I was in my teens, got knocked out, and there were pins put in. Those pins eventually decayed the bones through titanium pins and at the time, that was probably the best you could do. Over the years, the implant surgeries got much better. He was able to remove all the teeth on the uppers, but six implants in and structure in such a way that the comfort level’s there, and it just … In my mouth, it just feels better, because when you have this work done, if they put partials in or things like that, you lose part of your palates or your taste goes away, I wanted something permanent.
I have to give talks occasionally, and there’s nothing worse than having to worry about your tooth falling out or something. This was the right thing to do, because it had actually gotten into my sinus cavity, and so we had to do a sinus pack and all. All that was done here. Within a year, I’m happy. These teeth are pretty solid. I’m not quite used to it. I think I can bite through a metal fork now if I had to. Zirconium and they don’t stain. It’s a good feeling.
I like that as soon as you walk in the door they greet you with a big smile and they say hello and ask how everything is going, and there’s never a long wait time. They take the time as they’re doing work on you to explain what’s going to happen next and what they’re doing and why they’re doing it, so you fully understand what going on and it actually helps you relax.
I had old fillings from the 1980s and they took pictures of it and showed me how the fillings were cracked and they weren’t holding very well and so to preserve the health of my teeth he removed those fillings and he gave me new fillings and I have not had any problems with any of it. It was a very easy experience and it wasn’t difficult or anything. I didn’t have to take any pain medicine afterwards, went straight to work and he even did one of them without any numbing. There was no problems at all, and the atmosphere is just very, very welcoming.
For one thing, I know that oral health has a lot to do with even your initial health. I know your teeth are kind of a gateway to disease and problems. I wanted to make sure I was taking care of that.
They went in, did extensive X rays, and found all kinds of things that needed to be done. I had a couple of dead teeth in the very front. I’d broken one of those off when I was 10 years old. They replaced the front four teeth, and then they did some crown and some implants. Because I had teeth that were missing. Those really made a difference in my chewing. I noticed that was a big help there, after those came in.
Makes a much better feel and bite, and they were very careful how they lined those up and spent a lot of time fitting those in. Dr. was, really wanted to be precise. That’s what I liked about him is how meticulous and hard to please himself, he would work very hard to make sure that it got just right.
I really appreciated that.
My mouth was really small, so it was hard to chew and stuff. We just decided the palate appliance to go, because it’d just widen my mouth. Braces just to get the pretty smile, and I had problems with headaches and stuff, so the braces also helped with the headaches. It was just really, really crooked, and just awful, and I would not smile at all, and now I just love smiling. You can’t get me away from the cameras now. I love it.
If it was say, like I had dental insurance but if there was any extra money that I had to come up with that was probably what made me anxious and they always worked with me on that. The fact that they were such a good team and now I see Dr. Jeston and he’s just as qualified as his father. He’s a wonderful dentist. I feel very comfortable with him and so I’ve not really had any anxiety about any of the work that they’ve done because I’ve trusted them to do what I thought was right. They didn’t do anything unnecessary. Everything was very necessary for my health.
My all time mission every time a patient comes in is to make sure that they’re comfortable and they had a visit that they’ll never forget. When a patient comes and sees me they’re usually getting like a crown or a filling or something major done and I want them to be comfortable the entire procedure. Dr. Emami and Dr. Justin are both extremely, extremely educated in everything dentistry. They can look at an x-ray and tell you everything you need. They’re very precise in their treatment, they’re good at their treatment they do. They have very electric personalities, they’re awesome dentists, they’re people who make going to the dentist enjoyable, not only bearable, but enjoyable to do. They’re very comforting towards their patients, it’s all about their patient comfort here.
I was having a lot of headaches and had a jaw injury in the past and it dislocated my jaw or fractured it at some point. In order to fix the clicking and the popping and the pain I was having in my jaw, he recommended that braces would be the best way to do that, so we did that. Not only did it … aesthetically it was more pleasing, but also got rid of the pain. I don’t have headaches anymore and the clicking in my jaw is almost completely gone. I can eat things like crunchy things specifically, where I couldn’t eat those before because it would hurt my jaw so bad. I can eat a lot more things and I smile all the time. I laugh all the time. I always like to have a good time. Now that the braces are off and I feel more comfortable with myself and it’s easier to smile because my jaw doesn’t hurt, so I’m able to … I feel I can enjoy my life more at this point.
I had a experience where one of my tooth in the front fell out, and I came to Dr. Emami, and I knew I couldn’t work with the … the work I do is talking to patients. Well, they put an implant in there, and just improved my smile.
That even brought my inner side just more better on the outside, so it really helped me. Just made me feel comfortable with myself, even though I was, but it even brought it out more better. The experience of the work that they do is so professional.
Dr. Emami and his staff are very, very friendly with children. I actually have four children, ranging from 10 years old, down to three years old. They’re excited to come to the dentist, which I think is saying a lot for children to want to come to the dentist. In fact, they’re so excited they want to write it on the calendar, and they want to know when they’re coming.
The hygienist actually got my three year old to do bite wings, which is hard to get, I think some adults to do bite wings, but she was so good with her, and so comforting to her, that she actually had her in the chair. I was out in the waiting room, she was in the chair doing bite wings. Did a fantastic job with her for her first check up.
They’ve just been very encouraging to have them come in, and even when my daughter was two, they would have her sit in my lap, they would get her comfortable with the dentist office, and the staff, and the process of what goes on here.
They are very thorough with what they do. You don’t have to spend a lot of time waiting in the waiting room, which is another bonus here. They’re very competent, they’re very caring, and I trust this practice with my children and myself.
Okay, well, at first my teeth were crowded. They were able to shift all my teeth around. They didn’t have to pull anything. As the first time getting braces, you’re like, “How do I look with braces? What will it be like? Does it hurt? Does it hurt to eat?” They try to make it as comfortable as possible. They really did the best they could to make it comfortable. It’s worked really, really good and really improved my smile so much.
I tried the CPAP machine for about a year and just was not having good results and really did not sleep well for about a year. And so I’d heard the ad and I guess I was pretty desperate for something and so came and visited with Dr. Emami and felt positive he could help me. And then I didn’t know how it would take, the process. It takes a month or two, send off, get the device made. And I was going on this sailboat trip and I was gonna be in confined quarters with my wife for two weeks and didn’t want to take the CPAP and my snoring was bad so I wanted to try to get this worked out before that. And he worked with me to get it done. They really went the extra mile to accommodate me.
And so once we got the ortho, we met it seemed like every other week to tweak it. There’s a process that you’re bringing the jaw forward to help you snoring and several sleep tests, little tests they send you home with. And I’m sure those weren’t inexpensive so, several of those and he kept tweaking it and working and so yeah, the price on the front seems high, but when you look at all the man hours he devoted to me, it was well worth it and the result has been good.
It’s the total package and these days it’s just hard to find somebody that actually does what they say they’re gonna do. And so I’d recommend him, especially for the sleep apnea, if folks can foot the initial costs, it’s well worth it to not have to haul the CPAP machine around anymore.
The crown process is very smooth. They do most of their crowns in-house. I mean you come in the morning and then you come back in the afternoon for the permanent. Just taking one day as opposed to having coming back several times. That really means a lot. They know what they’re doing, and I would recommend them to all my friends and family.
After four attempts at ortho, just regular ortho, bands and brackets, and I still didn’t have the exact smile I wanted, at 43 years old, I decided that I was actually going to go for the smile I wanted and have Invisalign done, which was kind of cool, because at my age, you don’t really want to have the traditional bands and brackets done, and everybody think, “Oh my gosh, this crazy old woman is going to have braces done.” So, I did the Invisalign, and nobody knew what I was doing. It’s easy, breezy, take it out when you want to eat, put it back in when you’re finished. I had it done in eight months, and now I have the smile that I always wanted.
If you think that you’re too old to do it, you’re not. My mother-in-law was 55 and she did Invisalign, so it’s a cool product.
He’s always right upfront with you. He tells you exactly what he can do to help you, and he works with you. I had quite a challenge with my teeth, and he gave me some options, which was great, and he was very clear about them. He works with you financially, which is good. He always lets you know that he’s there for you. He’s a great doctor that way.
I always feel very confident and comfortable in his presence. I know that I’m in good hands with him. I guess it’s the attention to detail in making me feel comfortable. I feel when I walk in that they’re really glad to see me. They make me feel like, God, they’ve been waiting for me all week and here I am. I just they make me feel like they care about me and that I’m important. That’s nice to walk in. Lot of people don’t like going to the dentist, but I always look forward to coming in to visit with the staff. They’re great. Absolutely great.
Coming here to see Dr. Emani for the last ten plus years that I’ve been coming to him, every time I come in, he’s always complimenting me on how great my smile looks and how I feel. I never have any dental issues. I come in for a normal cleaning, because he showed me how to take care, and how to have that great oral hygiene through the years. So I’ve just been able to prevent a lot of issues from happening, and continue taking great care of my teeth.
Been coming for a long time. They’re like a family. Dr. Emami is very sincere, and personable, and cares about you and your family and always asking … It’s amazing how many patients he actually has, but he remembers things about each family member and asks you about it. So that’s that side of it, but then also the quality of care and work and willing to do whatever needs to be done to make sure you’re not in pain, just constantly putting his arm on yours, “Are you okay? Are you feeling that? Is it all right?”, and just the follow up, and just a great all around experience. It’s not a scary place. It’s a place where they strive to make your life better through the health of your mouth. I recommend them all the time.
I have a little whitening kit and it’s just like little strips. I just put it on my teeth for an hour and a half to two hours and it whitens it quite a bit. I always used to use the Crest Whitestrips and it just … it worked, but it didn’t give that like, “Oh wow, my teeth are actually white.” These do. For my work I have to have a good smile and just a good appearance and so it’s actually helped me a lot because I really hated smiling. My teeth weren’t horrible, they just weren’t what I wanted. Now they’re just kind of perfect now.
Well definitely our slogan, or our way of life at Galleria of Smiles is patients are first, and we really pay very, very close attention to detail. I mean, it’s to the point that sometimes we are like, “Really? Are we really paying attention to something that’s so not important or it’s so small,“ but everyone thinks it’s just too much micromanaging the system. But we really micromanage our patient services, as far as the way they enter, the way they are received, the way we call, the way they call, or if they call our we immediately taking care of the responding to their calls. I’m very thankful to say we really find every part of our being, every person that works at Galleria of Smiles, is paying attention towards all those details to reach them, to touch them, and go on.
As far as our practice, one of the most important part of our practice is preventative area. We have a great hygiene program. When patients call for cleaning, definitely they do not know their condition, so when they come in, we really assess, analyze everything about their gum issue, plus their teeth, of course, but I want to emphasize on the preventative.
In any society, at least 50 to 60% or more have gum disease and if you include gingivitis, which everybody knows the word, gingivitis, bleeding gums. It’s just the beginning of their problem, which is bigger and worse and needs a lot more preventive, a lot more maintenance is that gum disease called periodontal disease or pyuria, some people know that and that’s the foundation of the teeth, which is bone and gums. They deteriorate and the teeth get loose and then you have lose of teeth.
Long story short is, we try to do our best to prevent that to happen. We can prevent teeth to get from cavities, you crown them, you fill them, whatever you can do to restore them, but gums are so important and many people, they don’t know and really periodontal disease do not have any symptoms.
The symptoms are very, very painless in a way, sometimes and they’re little bleeding and sometimes, of course, they don’t show themselves so aggressive then suddenly you have pus and you have bleeding and some people really don’t have much pain beside the smell or they smell their breath or somebody smells their breath with halitosis we call it and that’s how they come to the dentist. They go, “Hey, somebody’s telling me or my wife or husband tell me I have bad breath.“
Those are the things that we really focus on to make sure we diagnosis these early on and do some preventative modes for that because there’s always implants, of course. There’s always dentures, but we really don’t want them to go there if we can prevent it.
That’s one of my really passion recently. I know it’s the most basic and sounds so routine for everyone, floss, brush, do this and that, but that’s something that our generation needs to be reminded all the time and it’s been neglected by the young and the old, so we really take a lot of pride and take our time and we have many ways to prevent. There’s solutions we give to the patient, mouthwashes or toothpaste, different special stuff and special medication that can help them to prevent their gum disease.
Restorative dentistry and restoring teeth, of course, been around for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years. Everyone’s done it. In Egypt from the Pharaoh time, they used gold and they restored teeth. You see it on the skulls that you see from many, many years ago. The ancient history is there for restorative dentistry, restoring teeth. The key with restorative right now is if you prevent, of course, we will have less damage to the teeth, but after damage or some cavities or some destruction has happened, we use tooth color fillings to definitely restore if they are minimal destruction to the tooth. But if they are larger, definitely we go more crowning the tooth or protecting the tooth from all surrounding. That is been the greatest thing when we talked about affording, having the same day restorations. All of these are same day restoration and all of them are tooth color. They are not that black and blue colors we see in our mouth. I had some of them when I was a child.
They still, some dentists will use amalgam and similar fillings, but definitely we try to eliminate them because they’re causing a lot of damage to the teeth long run. The beginning, they’re fine. As they expand, the cause fracture. After your placement, they cause fracture the teeth and also leakage after they rust and corrode in the mouth. So, you see a lot of that is being damaging teeth. So, we restore those. Removing the amalgam because of the mercury. Of course, a lot of people don’t like the mercury and metals anymore. There are doctors who just take them all out no matter what. I, personally, go with see the damage, how big it is, how large it is, but you really want to eliminate it as much as possible. Of course, we go back to old times. We do partials, dentures, if necessary, but right now, dental implants is really the standard of care. We provide it and also we inform the patients. We really try to help them to see it. They understand it. Not educate them. Everyone’s educated. Everyone’s got a Facebook and a Google, so everybody knows about these great things in dentistry, but we try to offer it and try to inform them so they can pick and do the best they can for their own mouth.
When I started practicing, it was pretty much restorative dentistry and preventative dentistry. As I evolved, I asked myself, “What is our vision and mission long term?“ We came up with the title Total Health Starts with Your Smile. We came up with that, and then I’m like, “Okay, total health … I’m not doing anything beside restorative and preventative,“ so when Justin got involved, we added more aspects, other aspects of dentistry and specialties like orthodontics, oral surgery, and definitely sleep apnea. Definitely sometimes we reach out people who are nutrition and vitamins, stuff that really is deficient in our system of our patient’s diet. Those are the things that we try to focus on and try to find out the underlying problems of what’s causing the issues for our patients. If we don’t have the answer, we definitely get it for them or direct them to it.
But, definitely we look at the overall aspects because, again, it’s about relationships. It is about reducing their stress with IV sedation. All of that, IV sedation, with sleep apnea, all of that combine. We keep looking at different aspects of how we can make patients better. See, when you do IV sedation, you have to do a health assessment. When you do a health assessment, you take blood pressures, you do all that. You kind of know where your patient stands as far as health and if you think they need to get healthier, that’s the point. We are diagnosing, we are trying to help them if we can, or refer them to their medical personnel.
picked Tulsa because I … this is the first place that I entered into United States. I came here 1978 to Tulsa International Airport, the largest, biggest, best airport in the country. Have you seen it? Right? You guys seen it.
I entered here 1978, and I went to high school here, and I went to Oral Roberts University. So there’s a lot of connection with memories, and my memories in United States and beginning of my life here in this country, and I’m very thankful. That’s the very big reason.
And also, I met my wife at Oral Roberts University, and she was expressing after we got married that Tulsa in the place to raise the kids. We wanted to go to a bigger town, and so on and so forth, but definitely what grabbed us was how the future holds for our children, and we wanted a family kind of an atmosphere, somewhere that the kids are not distracted too much with different crazy things, and this is the greatest town. And definitely when you have friends and family around after 20, 30 years, living in town, you feel more acceptable, accepted, I should say, in the city. So you’re more accepted in the city, or you feel like you’re wanted, too. People want you to be here.
So we had a lot of people wanted us to stay, families that we knew. And that was a good start for us, and of course, kids grow and they did what I did almost, and they continued.
It’s a great time in my life. I’ve been doing this about 25 plus years. When Justin decided to come and practice with us, and my wife’s always been helping me since the beginning. Actually, Dr. Justin used to answer the phone when he was little. Actually, he was six or seven years old. Let me tell you this story. He got a call from a patient, emergency patient after hour. He answered my phone. The patient goes, “Is your dad home? Where is Dr. Emami?“ He passes the phone on. She was telling me her conversation with Justin at that young age when she came to the office, and was very funny. He started very young to be in the dental practice. When he decided to come, it was great. It’s fun in the beginning, really. My wife, been helpful so much with my success. She has education, degree plus business degree.
She was very helpful to help the foundation of the business aspects, because I didn’t know anything about it. She helped me to. Justin decided to go to dental school. I never pushed or say, “You have to do this,“ and so on. But God trained him that way and directed him that way. I’m very thankful. After he joined us, really changed our life. They say after 20 you get to a plateau in your practice. You’re comfortable, you don’t need to do anything else. You’ve got the plane up on the level altitude, you want to just ride smooth ride. He joined, and I had to go and do a big jump with him and big bump up due to the fact that we had two practices. One was a little older, one was new. We had to renovate, just move to a new location where we are right now. He really ignited a new … Start new rejuvenation in a way of the whole thing. He’s very smart.
He’s doing a very great job. I’m doing less and less of certain things, and more and more of other things. I’m trying to give him what he likes to do. He’s doing all aspects of dentistry very well. Definitely, IV sedation, and oral surgery, and all the surgical aspects, implants, sleep apnea, orthodontics, all of that. He’s really taken a good hold of it and good control. I love the preventative stuff and other aspects of dentistry that everybody needs everyday. We have the good balance right now between both of us. Both practices get a good part of us. He works in both offices, and I do the same. It’s just been amazing. I’m so thankful. It’s not by plan, it’s been the will of the Lord. Whatever God wanted, this is what happened.
As I entered into my … After high school and college and I came to this country, long, many years ago. When I … It was about 1978 when I came to this country and I always wanted to seek and follow the profession in medical field, and as far as that goes, because of my age, I didn’t want to do 20, 30 years of studies, so I thought dentistry could make it happen, due to the fact that I could use my skills. I wanted to work with my hands, and I wanted to do surgery, and I wanted to have patient contact, and so on and so forth. So I thought dentistry would be the best field for me, and I loved artistic, you know, the skills that I had, to be utilized in that fashion. So I picked the field of dentistry, and it’s been amazing.
Another great thing about dentistry is that we are dealing with people who are really not that sick or ill, so you can have much better contact or connection with them, and have a great time with them. Not that I don’t like to serve others, but this makes it more comfortable in a way, to reach people and be able to address other issues in their lives, and that’s the best thing I’ve done.
I’m so thankful to have a team and people who even decide to come work with us. I don’t care who the person is, every time I interview someone, my family believes I hire everybody because I love everybody. I kind of get them into the door and I trust that they’re going to do the job well. I’ve been very, very thankful because they’ve changed my life as much as I’ve changed theirs. It’s a mutual thing and I’m very thankful. It’s a two way street. Some of them have been here 20 years. We just had one that retired after 20-some. I’ve had some for 12, 13, 14 years that are in practice with me. I’m very thankful.
I think that’s another best part of the practice, that’s if we can mention that really, is the people who you work with and you change their life and they change mine. We have happy times and sad times in our practice, people who left or people who passed away, but all of those is the biggest story of my life. I think the thing I take with me is the faces of the people, the patients that I saw, and the team that I really got interested me with. I mean, these guys really live here. They have other choices. There’s many practices, and when they choose you, I’m very thankful for them. They’re amazing people, and everybody’s learning and open to learn. We try hard. I really try hard, not only do it on a professional base, definitely I like to get to know what’s going on in their personal life, because if they’re not happy outside, they’re not going to be happy inside. I’ve got to keep both inside and outside happy.
So many patients ask me, I’m getting to the end of their treatment, and they’re like, “Justin, how much time is this gonna take? How much more time do we have left?“, and I sit there and I tell them, “We have a certain amount of time, but I have a question for you. My question for you is this, are you okay with me being a little bit of a perfectionist and taking a little bit more time to make it perfect?“. Never have I got, no, don’t be a perfectionist Justin, don’t, just cut it short, but everyone loves the attention to detail and I pride myself in that.
Dr. Emami and myself and Dr. Emami himself has really ingrained that within me. Don’t cut corners, make sure that you’re a perfectionist. Sometimes it’s the little details that count and it’s gonna go the long way. That’s really what we are looking for is creating something that’s a long term, a long term plan. Making sure that they’re smiling for a very, very long time. So, those little attention to details, patients love it. They love the little things that we do sometimes and it’s beautiful in making someone smile. Like I said, relationships are big. We create amazing relationships with our patients and everyone loves the fact that we’re a little perfectionists here and there. A little OCD every once in awhile. It’s fun.
We have a lot of patients who come in and see us, and they’ve been to other dentists. They’ve had dentists as a kid, they’ve had dentists as they’ve grown up, and so many people always wonder, “Why should we choose Gallery of Smiles?“ I mean, there’s a ton of different reasons that we have of why you should choose us, why patients do choose us, and really, those patients are looking for specific things that we’re able to provide.
We have a lot of patients who found us on the internet, they’ve looked at different videos that we have, they’ve seen us on billboards, and things like that, and they’re looking for technology. They’re looking for someone who’s not an archaic-style dentist. Someone who’s top of the line, and they know the best procedures, minimally invasive, or able to customize a plan for them. And we’ve been, we specialize in that. We love technology, we love the best of the best. Every day, we’re growing. Every day, we’re learning.
A lot of patients want the experience. They want to make sure that I have the most complex treatment plan. I have a plan that’s so difficult and so many doctors have said, you have to go somewhere else. We can take care of you, and they’ve been turned away. So they’re looking for the experience, and whenever we bring patients in, we’re able to show them, we’re able to explain to them exactly what they’re needing. We’re able to create that customized plan for them and show them that, “This is the best plan. We have everything under control. We’re able to do everything and under one roof.“
So patients are also looking for something, a place that they can go, where they don’t have to go to five different offices, two different offices, dealing with two different doctors, three different doctors. That they’re able to get it done all here, under one roof. So many people are looking for that and that’s why they choose us. Is because we’re able to provide a one-stop-shop, if you would, and be able to give all these services under one roof, reducing the number of visits. Reducing the numbers of doctors, of course, you get to see two doctors.
My dad’s here. We’re always around, having fun as a family. So you’re able to see that. A lot of people choose us because of the family atmosphere. They want to bring their family into an atmosphere that’s good, one that’s going to be best for their children. They want to get their children’s teeth straightened by a dentist who’s nice, kind, who actually loves what he does, and he’s able to create a smile for their family. A lot of people are looking for that trust value, and making sure that this is the place for them because they trust the individual who’s taking care of not just themselves, but their entire family.
They’re looking for more of that relationship, so there’s so many different reasons of why people do choose us, and they always wonder why they should choose us. There’s so many different things that make, that set us apart. Because there are, there’s so many different dentists out there, and we want to make sure, we want to take care of everybody. Everybody who walks through our doors, we want to provide them with really what they’re trying to achieve. So everyone comes in wanting something different.
Not everyone is the same. There’s no one size fits all in this field or in what we do, but we’re able to customize it specifically to what they want, and we’re also able to provide quality. We’re providing a quality care, so it’s not that it’s the cheap care, the run of the mill-type of a thing. It’s specifically designed for what each individual wants. It’s customized specifically for that and that’s what a lot of people are looking for. They’re wanting to make sure that this is a plan for them, them alone, and they’re wanting a value.
They’re wanting to create a quality. They’re wanting to create a relationship. They’re wanting to make it sure that this is their home. That this is the place that they’re going to be taken care of. And we’ve taken care of so many people because of that, and we’ve created so many great relationships, just based off of that. And then, there’s a lot of people who are looking, they’re concerned about the financial aspect of it. We know everyone is financially concerned, or most everybody is, and we’ve been able to create make it.
We’ve been able to make it that every single person who comes in here, whether finances are of concern, or not, no matter how much the actual plan costs, or the investment of what they’re wanting to do to achieve, we’ve been able to structure it that every single person who wants that plan is able to achieve it, and get the best that they deserve. Every single person who walks in these doors deserves the best. They deserve the best quality. They deserve to be treated as if they are the number one person.
We want to tell our patients, “That no matter who you are, what you believe is going on, what experiences that you’ve had in the past, we’re going to take care of everything that you want. And our goal is your goal.“ And that’s why people choose us.
Of course, my dad is from Iran. His culture has really been driven into his family. Myself, my sisters, we’ve been thoroughly grounded with the foundation that family comes first. If you would have asked me 10 years ago, “What would you think about working with your family?”, I probably would have said, “No way. This would not be possible.”
Then as I grew up, I got to know other dentists, I got to know many other father-son, father-daughter, mom and son, mom and daughter type practices. I’ve never really seen amazing things come out of it, so I’ve always been skeptical before I started practicing here. I was always skeptical, how are things going to work out?
Then as time went on, as my training continued and whenever I was getting ready to come to Galleria of Smiles, both my sisters, my mother and my father, of course, Dr. Emami worked at Galleria of Smiles. So I’m getting ready to enter into this voyage with my entire family, so I’m wondering, “How is this going to work?”, because at home we’re not always the nicest to each other, brothers and sisters. We love the heck out of each other, but it is what it is. We’re brother, sisters, mom, dad and we’re a family. Everyone knows kind of how those experiences play out.
But whenever I walk into these doors, whenever I walk into the office, my sisters are wonderful ladies. They’ve been blessed very much with their intellect, the things that they’re able to do, their passion for other people, their passion for taking care of others. So whenever we’re here, we are on a mission.
We are on a mission to take care of every single person who walks through these doors. And because our goals are aligned, because we’ve been trained as very young kids that family comes first, we’ve been able to implement those strategies to make sure that every person that comes in here becomes one of our family.
So many of the other team members are also concerned. They see sister, sister, brother, dad, mom. They see all of that and they’re concerned, “Well am I be a part of the group?”, but actually a lot of our different team members, they’ll tell you they feel like they’re adopted. We adopt everyone who comes in and works for us, and then we start adopting our patients.
It’s really, really fun that we’re able to take those family values and we’re able to give them to patients and we’re able to give them to patients, we’re able to create more of a family atmosphere that everyone gets taken care of just like they were our own, just like they were our own brother and sister, or just like they’re our own mother, father, grandmother, whatever role they may play.
But we’ve been blessed and it just works so well. It’s a cohesion. It’s perfect in every single way and I couldn’t be more honored to work with my family. I’ve been very blessed in being able to work with my father, very, very smart man. He’s on the forefront of technology, always wanting beautiful things for his patients.
His dream, his dream has always come first and I don’t know if he always wanted to have his family work together. I always know he wanted the best for his family and he’s worked very, very hard for us to be at the levels that we are, to take care of the people the way that we take care of other individuals. And that’s his passion. His passion is other people.
I’ve always loved that and that’s why I wanted to join Galleria of Smiles, because that core foundation that Dr. Emami has created is a beautiful one and we’ve been able to touch so many other people’s lives. My whole family included. We’re just here to take care of other people and we’re blessed that we even get to see each other every single day, because I know a lot of families don’t get to say that, but we get to see each other every day and we love each other and it works so well, very, very beautifully.
Of course, initially, like most children, we always think that we know exactly want to do in life, become a firefighter, become a doctor, become different things like that. With me, I really didn’t know exactly what I was really wanting to do, but I definitely did know that I wanted to go in the field where I care of take care of humans, take care of other people. I love, I fascinated by the human body itself, everything that has to do with it. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. Through high school, went through college. It was really in college I started having to sit down and think, “What is it that I want to do?“
I’ve always been fascinated, actually, by surgery, so I figured why not look into more of the surgical field in the medical side of things. I started realizing that there wasn’t a lot of ways to really talk to individuals, to get to know people. I met a lot of different doctors. I love the surgical aspect of it, but I really didn’t feel as if that was me. I talked to Dr. Emami, my father. I explained to him some the concerns and things that I had whenever it came to medical field. He told me that possibly look into the dental field. Take a look and see what is out there, so that I’m able to make a better decision on my own of what I’m really wanting to do, what I want to create a passion for.
I started examining the different aspects of dentistry, looking at different root canal specialist surgeons, different things like that, orthodontist. I really just started opening up my mind, opening up what there is out there. After seeing it, I figured that this is really for me. I’m able to get to know individuals. I’m able to create a relationship with patients. I’m able to make them smile, which is really what I love doing. I love making people smile whether it’s in the office or outside the office that is just what I truly look for in life is making other people smile.
I went into the dental field. Through my experiences, after I graduated, after all my residencies that I’ve done, I started realizing that there’s so much more out there for us. I’ve been blessed that I’ve been able to take so many different courses, looking at so many different areas of dentistry whenever it comes to straightening teeth, whenever it comes to the surgical aspect, oral sedation, IV sedation. There’s so many different possibilities that we have out there.
As I’ve been researching and learning and learning, really created something amazing here in Gallery of Smiles. We’ve been able to bring everything in-house and really grow to make it that we’re able to take care of so many individuals. That’s really what I was looking for as a kid is how I can take care of someone in a full-person aspect. You start looking at sleep apnea and different things like that. It’s really just grown our practice and made it that we’re abele to take care of so many different aspects of health, not just with the mouth, but with the sleep, even anxiety patients who are extremely fearful of the dentist.
Most patients that I do see here are extremely fearful of the dentist. We’ve been able to create a program for them that we’re able to bring them in, get everything that they need taken care of in minimal visits. They’re also able to forget about what happened, so it’s not something that they had created a bad experience or remember the experience itself. It’s been a wonderful experience because of that. I’ve been able to take care of patients. I see so many patients who are fearful, so many people who had no idea what’s going on. We’ve been able to create that smile. It’s a blessing for me to be able to touch those individuals lives, no matter what, however small the procedure is or however large the procedure is. We’ve been able to really take care of so many different patients, no matter what’s going on in their life.
