How Dental Crowns Are Made

The first step is making a dental crown is letting one of our dentists examine your tooth. In some cases, a dental crown may not be the only solution to your problem. We want to make sure we are doing the right thing for you.

Assuming you do need a crown, the dentist will scan or sometimes make an impression of your teeth can. This will help create a dental crown that fits is the right size and shape to blend in with the rest of your smile.

The next step is reshaping your tooth. By removing the damaged, decayed, or discolored portions of your tooth, you are left healthy parts of your tooth. This also forms an abutment where the dentist can bond your dental crown to the tooth.

This also is where the delay can come into play. At some other dentist offices, they will need to place an order with a dental laboratory to make the dental crown.

As a result, you may leave with a temporary crown. The dentist office will have to contact you when your permanent crown is ready, which means you will need to make another trip to the dentist to have it placed.

You may be waiting days or weeks depending on how far away the lab is located and how many other people’s orders for dental crowns are ahead of yours.

At Galleria of Smiles, we don’t want you to have to wear a temporary crown. We also don’t want you to have to make extra trips for something that could be done in a single visit.

How We Can Make A Same-Day Dental Crown

We are able to make same-day dental crowns in our office with the E4D technology.

After scanning your broken, cracked, decayed, or discolored tooth, that information is fed into a computer program. This program provides directions to our in-house milling machine.

As your tooth is being reshaped, we also can begin the process of creating your permanent dental crown. When the milling machine is finished crafting your crown, we will check the fit.

As long as everything is all right, we will bond it in place. You can leave knowing your smile looks as good or better than it did before. You also can feel confident about eating the foods you want to eat.
