Three Times Dental Crowns & Bridges Can Save Smiles
Try to imagine three identical triplets. They grew up doing everything together — playing games, taking the same classes, and eventually buying homes in the same neighborhood.
One day, the “oldest” triplet, Terry, decides to host a cookout for his family. The other triplets, Timmy and Tommy, bring their families over for the afternoon get together.
The trouble is these triplets can still act like teenagers when they are around one another. At some point, they get out a baseball for a game of catch in Timmy’s backyard.
Tommy takes his eye off the ball at one point and gets hit in the mouth, breaking one of his teeth. Timmy trips in an attempt to help and knocks out two of his teeth when he falls into the oak tree.
Terry thought he was going to escape the afternoon without injury until he bit into an olive that still had the pit inside. Terry cracked one of his teeth.
If they lived in Tulsa, OK, it would be time for them to call Galleria of Smiles at (918) 496-8010 or to contact us online to make an appointment as soon as possible. Our dentists can create dental crowns and bridges that would keep all three of their smiles looking terrific.
A Dental Crown For Tommy’s Broken Tooth
If Tommy were a real person, he certainly would not be the first person to come to our office with a broken tooth. We’ve treated too many people with this same problem to count them all.
That’s also why we are confident that we could take care of Tommy’s tooth and send him home with a smile on his face.
Getting a dental crown is simple and quick at Galleria of Smiles thanks to our E4D technology. With this system, we could prepare Timmy’s tooth, create his crown, and bond it in place all in one visit to our office.
If Tommy does not repair his broken tooth, he could be at risk for tooth decay and tooth infections. By getting a dental crown now, he may be saving himself from needing a root canal or tooth extraction down the road.
For Tommy’s crown, we would first reshape his tooth to create an abutment from the strongest parts of his tooth. When the crown is ready, we could attach it so his smile looks complete and he can keep eating the foods that he loves.
A Zirconia Dental Bridge For Timmy’s Missing Teeth
Timmy’s intention to help Tommy didn’t quite go as planned, and now he’s missing his two front teeth. Fortunately, we can help with an implant-support dental bridge.
A dental bridge is built by bonding dental crowns together. We use zirconia for our bridges for a few reasons. First, we want your dental bridge to look as natural as your real teeth. When your bridge is put in place, it should blend in with the rest of your smile.
Second, zirconia is known for its strength and durability. As long as he cares for his dental bridge correctly, Timmy could keep it for decades.
In this case, we would recommend placing his bridge on dental implants, which are titanium cylinders or screws that will replace the missing roots of his teeth. By getting an implant-supported bridge, we won’t have to touch any of Timmy’s healthy teeth. Instead, the implants would hold his bridge in place.
The process for placing his implants and getting his bridge may take more visits than getting a dental crown, but in the end, Timmy’s smile back will look as good as ever.
Terry’s Dental Crown For A Cracked Tooth
Cracked teeth are a common problem, too. Hard candy, ice, unpopped kernels of popcorn, and olive pits (like Terry bit into) are just a few things that can cause teeth to crack.
As with Tommy’s broken tooth, we would prepare Terry’s cracked tooth by making an abutment. This gives us a place to attach his crown before he leaves.
If the crack was too deep, however, we might have to remove Terry’s tooth instead. In that case, we could place a single dental implant in his jaw and then attach a dental crown after he healed to restore the appearance and the function of his tooth.
